TKOPIDWTB #2

The Kind of Parent I Don't Want to Be...

is the one that scolds my child for wanting a piece of candy in a gas station as I check out with my candy bar and soda and respond to them by saying "you don't need that candy. You have no idea how good you have it!"

Sadly, I witnessed this event one morning while paying for my gas.

Confession

A few people have asked about our recent pictures, and who took them. I’ll be honest, I don’t want to tell. I feel like I found and hired a secret photographer to take the type of pics I've been wanting, and if I reveal him, then he will be snatched away from me only to mimic the work that was done for my family. But that’s not fair to him. And I think I’m over it now.

His name is Joel Benton. He doesn’t have a website, or a blog, but he has a camera and inspiration. His computer is currently out of order, so the editing and massaging of the pics you’ve seen was done by yours truly. I'm sure he'd be happy to book a shoot for you.

23

She's twenty-three today.

Twenty-three years ago, the birth of my wife impacted a number of lives. Twenty-three years after that, she continues with the impacting. My life emphasized.

If you leave a comment here, she'll get it in her email. So give her some love today. I know I'm gonna. Happy Birthday to the sweetest person I know. I LOVE YOU!

New Series Idea

I recently got an idea for a new blog posting series. You may or may not know that I started a “Why I love AKANSAS” series, to which there are currently 9 posts. I haven’t contributed to that series in a little while.

My new idea, that I may or may not pursue, is to do with parenting. Specifically “The Kind of Parent I Don’t Want To Be” dubbed TKOPIDWTB

My goal is to bluntly express my parenting opinion about a specific topic I hope I will not mimic someday. I welcome comments. I welcome opposing viewpoints. After all, some of these posts may turn out to be rather bias.

TKOPIDWTB (see above for definition) #1 is the one who assumes that it was not my child’s fault for having to sit in a “Time Out” without me first understanding the reason for the time out.

I remember numerous times growing up, that when I got into trouble at school, and my mother found out about it, and I pleaded innocent, she believed the report of trouble instead of my innocent plea until I could prove myself innocent.

I have a hard time seeing parents wrongfully stick up for their kids.

There. That wasn’t so bad, was it?

Dear JJ. The 3rd Letter

Dear Jeremiah, This is going to be short.

Why do you wake up so early as of late? ...why?
Is it because you're hungry? No. I tried that.
Is it because you know Mom already left for work like an hour ago? Possibly.
Is it because you want to relocate to a bigger, softer bed? Nope. Tried that.
Is it because you want to chill with me before I drop you off at GKA?
Likely.

You're such a rock star. Well, as much as a dude your age can be one I guess.

Love,

-The dad who realizes first hand that patience is a virtue

Call him Tom. Tom Sawyer.

If you agree with Sheena, you would say that because of his outfit, and lack of socks/shoes, Jeremiah looks like Tom Sawyer.

He used to go by "Mr. Cute".
He is now adressed as Tom Sawyer.

GKA Kickoff!

Go Kids Academy is officially underway! My love woke up at 5 this morning. She beat me out of bed, which was different, but we still got a half hour or so of time before she went to school, I mean work.

At approximately 5:49:

Yes. I made her take that photo. It's a good shot though.

Sheena and I are so excited about life right now. She has been an incredible stay-at-home mommy the last 8+ months, and God has now provided this opportunity to do what she loves. Teach pre-k in a godly environment.

A beautiful and healthy son, a clean house/garage/yard, an iced caramel macchiato right in front of me, and bible school right around the corner are just a few of the other life-is-good thoughts I'm having right now.

Ok, I gotta sign off now. I'm bringing JJ to GKA this morning, but first he will get fed, changed, dressed, and a bottle, from his pap. Me.

Two Day Recap and Mr. Sharky

I'm back in the office today after a long two day outing.

Mom picked me up yesterday from my hotel and we had a couple of hours to visit Mall of America. A short, quick visit, but it was nice. I also got to see my dad, since he flew into MNPLS shortly before I left. It's so awesome how God works cool little things out like that.
The recap:

(all pics courtesy of the iPhone)

I'm taking Friday off and we're celebrating Sheena's b-day this weekend. It's gonna be thrill man.

Thrill.

LWBTC

Our church offers a Bible Training Center which is about to start up again in less than a month.
It is the 3rd year they are doing it. Sheena and I took a few courses the first year, then a couple more the 2nd year right before JJ was born, but now God is really speaking to us to get back into it.

So, we are going to obey, and complete the 2 year program. In the past two weeks or so it has been an increasing desire and prompting to complete the two year course. We can hardly wait. It will be a big sacrifice, but definitely worth it.

Here's the video I mentioned I was making for it in a post a few weeks ago. Check it out, and comment. And if God is leading you to come, then come! :-)

Huh?

I was just told that I look like a high school kid.

In other words, in an old lady's point of view, I look approximately 35% younger than I really am.

There's something about the age demographics of this 5th floor that screams RETIREMENT!!

I want to work in I.T. on the 3rd floor where there's always free food of some sort, a contest for the most decorated cube, people communicating as loudly as possible from one end to the other, and your boss is nowhere to be found.

be COURAGEOUS

"Courage is not the absense of fear.
Or the certainty of a positive outcome.

Courage is understanding that the road ahead may be hard and dangerous... and choosing to take the path anyway."

This is what I get to look at this month.

The Duel

You've seen those sticky, stretchy things before, yes?

We bought a couple of the oversized ones from wal-mart for only $.88 a piece, and Matthew and I put them to good use the other night.

Here's the two and a half minute video wrap up. Stick around until the end; this dude's laugh is contagious.

Matthew's QOD: Friday

We don't have the boys anymore, but was reminded to put up the last QOD.

So, better late, than never. Right?

I don't remember anything significant coming out the this dude's mouth on Friday, but throughout the week there were many instances of dialogue that forced the Sheen and I to look at each other, and wonder where he gets his phrases from. For example:

Matthew, we should get out of the pool now and go inside.
"What?? Come on."

Matthew, you're parents are coming home on Friday. Only two more days.
"What?? Come on."

Matthew, you chose gummy bears with your chocolate ice cream, and then changed your mind and wanted gum balls but it was too late.
"What?? Come on."

Matthew, what did you learn about the story we read you tonight about Jonah being swallowed by the big fish?
"To go to niv-en-ah."

He's a good kid. This was after he was 'talked-into' eating the gummy bears:

Mini Projector

I love technology. I love it, because it is always evolving. That's why I follow Engadget, pretty much the best site I know of for technology news. Plus they write with a good sense of humor.

Take for instance this V10 Mini Projector. It's about the size of a cell phone, and projects image/video/pictures/pretty much anything onto a wall.

I don't have a NEED for one just yet, but I might in a couple of years. Say, when the price drops just a little, and the quality increases a little more.

Only $600 this September.

Remember when almost no one had a cell phone, and they cost a great deal of money and were the size of a football? Ya. Me too.
