Like a Kid in a Candy Store

In case you were wondering, here is where that fun little cliche came from:

We went to the mall today to introduce our nephew to Candy Craze. Samuel seemed pretty content with his peanut butter sandwich (pictured), but the big 3 Year Old walked in circles; AND THEN decided on a few treats. Good times.

I see a deer!

I had my personal barber slash, smear and style my hair this morning.

What do you think; too much smear?

(and yes, you did see me wearing this sweater at church last night. Am I the only one that does that?)

SDK Meeting: 3/6

Apple announced today that they would be sharing their plans for the iPhone SDK release next Thursday.

Also said “exciting new enterprise features” ...probably meaning Blackberries are going to soon become less popular, meaning this cool little toy is maneuvering more and more into the business industry.

Exciting! Can’t wait to see the fruit of this event next week. Get it? Fruit, apple is a fruit...

Anyone else even slightly interested?

It’s What I Do

Have you ever asked someone what they do, and they reply with a bunch of gibberish that you don’t understand? Me too and I don’t like it.

Here’s how I bring home the bread, in case you’re interested.

I’m a Clinical Quality Analyst, meaning I analyze stuff for the Clinical dept. I was a trainer for all of 2007, just training one software program to 300-some nursing home Dietary Managers. Now I “own” that software. I am the go-to whenever something (or someone) is wrong with it. It’s mine. ALL mine.

I also put together reports in MS Excel for executives. Reports such as which of our 300-some facilities are on the “Worst 50” or “Most Resident Falls” lists. “Most Pressure Sores” list, etc stuff like that.

I’m currently in the process of writing a user manual for the application I trained last year. Yes, I’m WRITING a user manual, which will probably be 100 or so pages. Sound boring?

I am one of the people that grant computer access to stuff. Stuff like software programs, reports they need to view, etc, etc.

Yes, I do like some of the things I do, but not all.

My dream is to only do work for the Ministry, specifically technical stuff. Not sure what though.

Sometimes I remind myself of Kip from Napoleon Dynamite, singing, “I love technology, always and forever…but I still love technology…”

I’ll be a Cowboy, a Rancher if you will

Last night at Nate’s birthday bash, we all came into discussion about Wranglers. You know, those jeans that have been around since like 1940, that cowboys wear, that fit snugly from the top of the waist to the soles of your boots, that can be struck by lightning, and be bit by a pit-bull leaving no signs of wear. Yes, Wranglers.

The fruit of our discussion was mostly why wearing Wranglers is such a good idea. PK pointed out:

-They’re comfy, especially for working in. You can bend over and not get the plumber surprise
-The back pockets are relatively higher, so when sitting down, your wallet is not jamming one of your cheeks
-Durability and lots of other good reasons including the stunning look and comfort of them

Anyways, since I have lived here in Arkansas, I have become increasingly interested in having my own pair or two; and boots. Initially I could not understand how one would wiggle into these pants of paradise, and yet still be able to work. But, I try to live by the slogan; don’t knock it ‘til you try it.

So, this old city slicker is turnin’ country... before this coming summer is over. Stay tuned.

TV Lady

We're in the process of selling one of our TV’s in the Bargain Column of the local newspaper.

I’ve realized that in contrast to home, the paper is the best way to sell stuff around here.
I just got a call from an inquisitive lady wanting details. I said “would you like me to email you some pictures?” She replied, “you mean internet? I got nothing like that. I don’t even have a computer. You got one of those for sale?” I chuckled and thought, hmm. What would life be like without the Internet…

25 Smackaroos and a Smack Down

Nate's birthday is today. This is my shout-out to my big bro. All the best to you today Nate! Can you believe we're less than a year and a half apart?

I think birthdays are a good time to think of times past. Well, here's a good memory I have of you:

I remember when I played Varsity basketball with you in High School. One day after school in practice, you were playing Center in the paint as you usually would. J. Clapp was giving you a run for your money. Mainly he was just being extremely aggressive, pushing, biting, scratching, etc.

So you decided to reach back with your arm, lodged his head in between your forearm and bicep, then with a swift motion pulled him forward to mimic a WWF body slam.

Coach acted like nothing happened and kept the play going. Ha. Good times.

Happy birthday man! I look up to you.

Sheena is the Man, I Mean Mother

When I fell in love with Sheena, I was attracted to many things. Her gorgeous smile, curvaceous body, eyes, curvaceous body, curvaceous body, etc, etc.

I also fell in love with her personality. She's honest, loyal, compassionate, considerate, selfless, the list goes on…

But I must say, after being married for more than two years, I am still discovering bits and pieces of her personality. And most recently, one those pieces is her motherness. Yes, motherness is now a word.

Some people have gifts in writing or speaking, some in athletics, building things, or managing things. Well one of the many gifts Sheena has is that of a great mother. Hence the term motherness.

I believe there are good mothers, and not so good ones. Sheena is a good one. She has all of the mothering gifts, and executes them in a way that makes me proud to be her husband. And Jeremiah could not have a better mother.

I posted previously about finding your destiny, your vocation. And one of the ways I believe agrees with finding that destiny is when you see something that upsets you. Something that you constantly say, I would do that differently.

That’s Sheena. She knows how to be a mommy, a darn good one. And you better believe your booty that I’m proud of that.

Who Ate All My Cereal?

Growing up with five siblings was fun. I had 3 brothers and 2 sisters to blame for my actions. For example, eating all of my dad's cereal.

You see, with six kids yummy cereal can get spendy. So we got granola, and my dad got Great Grains. We all liked his cereal better. It had pecans, raisins and dates 'n stuff.

ANYWAYS...One of the greatest desserts I know of is cereal, milk and ice cream: together. Often when it was time for dessert, my dad would have this treat. And when reaching for the box, I would hear, "who ate all my cereal?" (insert blaming here)

As a father, I'm only slightly beginning to see through my dad's eyes on this topic. Well, sort of this topic.
After getting ready for the day today, I came out of the bathroom and walked over towards the bed and see Jeremiah lying in my spot. Next to my wife.

Jeremiah has all the crib space he could ask for, yet he finds a cozy spot next to the Sheen, slightly propped on his back, just z'n away...and of course he's sleeping with a big grin on his face.

He took my spot, and will probably take my cereal someday too.

Richard

So my father-in-law just sent me an email in relpy to my most recent post below. It cracked me up pretty badly, so I have to post about it.
He said:

"Are you sure it was not Richard Simmons night at church?

Holy tight pants, Batman!!!
I think I just threw up a little in my mouth!!!!!

Disco Night

Our church put on a Mystery Dinner Theater last night for Valentine's Day. It was 70's theme. Disco baby!

The Sheen went as a go-go girl, and I, a sporty. Those shorts are shorter than the picture shows them, I promise. Because every time I sat down, I felt like I was wearing a speedo.

Check out this quick video clip. If you look closely on the first shot, you can see Carlos (aka Pastor Kevin) doin' his thing in the back in an orange shirt.

Great Day for a Ride

66°F

It's days like today that really stir my passion to own and ride a motorcycle. I took the step of faith a few years ago to take a motorcycle safety course. I bought some nice biker gloves, and got my motorcycle DL and everything. And yes, I renew the endorsement each time I get a new license.

Still no bike. Sad.

Mr. Cute

You may have read on Sheena's blog that Jeremiah and his parents have been fighting sickness. Well, he had the brunt of it (we caught it from him) and he wasn't acting like himself for the past week or so. He's now practically 100% back to perfect and smiling a lot.

We LOVE it when he smiles. The Sheen said he looks like his dad, but only when he pouts. Ha!

One of his nicknames is Mr. Cute.
I wonder if that nickname will stick through High School...

3rd Party Software for the iPhone

I'm excited.

Apple is going to be releasing a SDK (Software Developer Kit) for the iPhone sometime this month. Which is basically a kit that will allow software developers to create software for the iPhone. And in even simpler terms, this means there will be sweet lickin' applications being created for the phone. This could range from Microsoft Office applications to Sony, Nintendo or Xbox games. Who knows...
I'm just excited to see what is created with this kit. There's also rumor that Flash is coming with the kit. Nice.

Ok, so I'm weird for being so excited, no, ecstatic about such a thing. At least I'm not the one who puts teeth under my pillow at night.

You are what you eat, you DIP!

The Sheen doctored up a juicy beef roast this morning and stuffed it in the slow cooker. We're having French Dip sandwiches tonight. I'm lickin' my chops just thinking about it. Only thing is, I'm trying to think of some appropriate sides.

What are you having tonight?

How to Receive a $66.73 Credit to Your Century Tel Account

I'm always on the lookout for the best deal. Whether it be a new vehicle, box of cereal, or TV I am willing to crunch the numbers.

That's what I did before switching to Dish Network for our television services. We're now getting more channels than cable and also saving a few bucks each month (on top of the $10 credit I mentioned below)

I also did this when switching from Cox high speed internet to Century Tel. A 12 month promo with no early cancel fee gets us in at only $29/month. Call me crazy pops, but that's the best deal I know of for high speed internet. Bar none. Who says bar none anymore?

So... I got my first bill from CentTel and it was over a hundred bucks! I looked at the details and there was this n' that, that n' this, blah blah. So what did Jake do? He went online and submitted a billing question/complain from their site. It needed to be 500 characters or less, and here it is:

I recvd my first bill and am very shocked at how high it is. The only reason I switched from cable to Ctel is b/c of the promo $29/mo for 1 yr. When I signed up, I asked and confirmed your Cust Serv Rep to assure there would be no other chrges on my first bill; only $29. She did. Now I recvd it and see slews of taxes, etc PLUS A S+H FEE!! It appears that now my internet services will be costing me more than before I switched to you. Your Rep lied. I need to resolve this issue, please tell me how.

And this is the email they sent me a day later:

Thank you for your recent email.

I understand these types of situations can be frustrating. Please accept my apologies for the inconvenience.

Since we bill our service one month in advance, the first bill is always higher, there is a charge from January 27 through February 27th and partial month charge prorated from date of activation until end of the billing cycle, however I have applied $66.73 credit to your account today.
Sincerely,
Anne

2 Years of Glory

2 years ago today my best friend became my wife. My flesh became one with her's, and that will never change. Wow.

A lot has happened in two years. We went out for dinner the other night and reminisced about the last two years. I can truthfully say it has been the best two years of my life. I believe I will always be able to say that about my most recent years in life, because we're a team. We're best friends. We respect and honor each other. We strive to serve each other. And ultimately we serve our savior, Jesus Christ.

Sheena, you’re my Babe. You support me. Pray for me. Encourage me.
I could not ask for a better partner in life. Let me say that again: I could not ask for a better partner in life. I am excited more than ever to pursue God’s plan for our marriage.
This year we are going more extreme than ever!

I love you Sheen Bean! Happy Anniversary!

No Bowl XLII

This is the message I'm getting on Fox right now, from Dish. Apparently they're having audio/video problems with the only channel that matters right now.

I called anyways. I spoke with Nin Hung (?) and told her how disappointing this is. She apologized. I asked for a free month of service; said she will apply a $10 credit to my account. Not bad, eh?

NFL.com is my friend right now.
Update: it's back up just in time for the lame half time show

be GENEROUS

I am inspired by my company calendar this month.

A Smile.
A kind word.
An outstretched hand.

You do not need material riches to be generous. Sharing your talents, knowledge, love and time is often more precious than money.

Generosity begins with an attitude of humble service and is fueled by love – not by duty or self-gain. It is seeing a need and responding joyfully with all that you have to give.
